Max Anstie - KTM

Max Anstie – KTM
Max Anstie on his Standing Construct KTM in the MX1’s and Jago Geerts on a Monster Energy Yamaha in the MX2’s were the overall winners at an action-packed Hawkstone International. A crowd of well over 5,000 lined the sandy track, three deep in places and were treated to some great action by many of this years GP riders having their first competitive outing on the new race machines.

Arminas Jasikonis - Husqvarna

Arminas Jasikonis – Husqvarna
Shaun Simpson powered into the lead at the start of the first international MX1 race from Tommy Searle and Max Nagl while Arminas Jasikonis, Max Anstie, Harri Kullas and Ivo Monticelli fought over fourth place. For the first four laps Searle was pushing Simpson, but behind them, Jasikonis had slotted into third place, at the expense of Nagl, and was closing in fast on the leading pair till a lap later in an effort to pass Searle the two collided when two lines met, and both went down hard. Seale, after picking himself up went back to the paddock, his bike to bent to race. Jasikonis carried on and finished seventeenth. With three laps to go, and with a comfortable lead, Simpson lost the front wheel of his RFX KTM and slid off. This let Kullas and Anstie through and into the lead, but a lap later Anstie dived up the inside of Nigl to take the race win. Nagl was second, just under two seconds behind with a remounted Simpson third. Kullas and Monticelli fill the next two places with Evgeny Bobryshev sixth.

Jago Geerts - Yamaha

Once again Simpson got the holeshot at the start of the second MX1 from Monticelli, Kullas, Searle and Anstie, but by the end of the first lap Simpson had had the first of his crashes and handed the lead to Monticelli. At the halfway point Anstie was in second and closing fast on Monticelli from Simpson, Nagl and Jasikonis. With four laps to go, Simpson was off again and he took a long time getting up as he had a dislocated shoulder. In front of the large crowd Simpson, with help from Dickie Dye, he stripped off his race shirt, held up his arm, and snapped his shoulder back in to place. He took no further part in the event.

Meanwhile, Anstie to his second win of the day by almost ten seconds from Monticelli with Nagl third and Jesikonis, Searle and Kullas filling the next three places. Anstie with two race wins took the overall from Nagl and Monticelli. Kullas and Petar Petrov just missed out on the podium while Ryan Houghton was an excellent sixth overall.

Sterry leads the MX2's

Adam Sterry – Kawasaki
Adam Sterry got the holeshot of the re-started first MX2 race as the first attempt to run it was stopped because of a freak crash that saw Brad Anderson stretchered off with facial injuries and a trip to the hospital. It looked, but later news from the hospital informed us it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.

Dylan Walsh - Husqvarna

Dylan Walsh – Husqvarna
Come the end of the opening lap Sterry already had a reasonable lead over Jago Geerts, Henry Jacobi, Alvin Ostlund, Thomas-Kjer Olsen and Conrad Mewse. Watson pulled out of the race at the first lap with a mechanical problem as Geerts, after a great opening lap, took over second place from Ostlund, Jacobi, Davy Pootjes and Jacobi. Sterry increased his lead a little lap after lap and crossed this finish line just over six seconds clear of Geerts. Jacobi was third from Ostlund Olsen and Mewse.

Watson was in ninth, and Mewse was eleventh. The top five stayed in the same order till three laps from the end as Sterry crashed out of the lead and dropped back to seventh place which boosted Walsh into the lead from Haarup and Vaessen. Geerts was fourth and Van-de-Moosdijk fifth. On the last lap, Olsen dropped his Husqvarna letting Sterry regain a place to sixth. Mewse was ninth with Watson tenth.

Max Anstie - KTM

Jago Geerts - Yamaha

Jago Geerts – Yamaha
The super final where the best of the MX1 and MX2’s meet was all about Monticelli as he took over the lead from Nagl halfway round the opening lap as was unchallenged to the chequered flag. Nagl held on for second while the Rockstar Husqvarna pairing of Jesikonis and Olsen were the first MX2 rider home in third and fourth places. Anstie started in eighth place, but with the track rutted and rough he could only get up to fifth in the eleven-lap race.

Tommy Searle - Kawasaki
